do I know it's a good source?
- Evaluate the intended audience and purpose
and the presence of / absence of factual errors,
misspelled words, typographical errors

do I know if it's a scholarly journal or a popular
magazine?
- Scholarly – written by researchers for fellow
researchers; language and presentation are formal;
purpose is to present the results of research
- Popular – written for average reader, language
and presentation are informal, purpose is to
inform or entertain
- Professional – written for fellow practitioners,
the style may be scholarly or popular
What's
plagiarism and how do I avoid it?
- Plagiarism – presenting another's work as
your own by not giving credit to those whose
works you used
- To avoid it – follow a style manual (usually
