HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA PROGRAM (HSDP)
Accreditation
American Preparatory Institute (API) is accredited by the Commission on Secondary and Middle Schools of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) to provide basic skills and competency-based high school diploma programs.
General Information
Attainment of a High School diploma from American Preparatory Institute (API) requires completion of 22 credits in specific areas of instruction. API courses may be taken for graduation from API or for transfer to another high school. Each student pursues his/her graduation requirements, working individually with instructor assistance as needed. Progress is measured by achievement of specific competencies in each course as demonstrated on mastery tests. Course credit is awarded upon the student's demonstration of 80 percent mastery of the competencies of the course. The student is thus afforded an adult setting in which he/she takes only the courses he/she needs, studies individually, progresses through achievement, and moves through the program at his/her own pace.

Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE)
Students planning on graduation through American Preparatory Institute (API) are required to take the TABE Form 7D test. The test results are used for placement in the program. Students may enroll in non-credit developmental courses or pursue a self-study plan until they achieve a score of at least an 8.5 on the Total Reading, Total Mathematics and Total Language batteries.
A student must achieve a score of 12.9 on the TABE form 8D within 60 days of completing course requirements to successfully qualify for graduation. Tests are administered on the first and third Friday of every month.
| Important Note: Developmentally appropriate materials are available in reading, writing, and math for those students needing to acquire or refresh skills necessary to pass the TABE for admission to the High School Program. |
Registration Priority
Military members have first priority for class enrollment. Priority for future enrollments is given to students who conform to the API attendance policy.

API will consider Military Schools and Training. Student must submit DD Form 295.
API will consider, for possible High School credit, the documented completion of vocational or apprenticeship programs resulting in a certificate, diploma, or license.
API will consider awarding credit for proficiency based on examination, such as the GED or CLEP programs.

Servicemembers are required to attend every class unless official military duties require otherwise. A maximum of 25% of the class sessions may be missed. The Base/Post Education Office is required to report absences and tardiness to your command.
As specified in the contract, students are required to attend a minimum of 75% of each class and show satisfactory progress through course material.
